Liverpool Interested Three More Forwards Prior To Egyptian Star Mohamed Salah

Sadio Mane's exit from Liverpool marks the end of the historic Liverpool front trio that included the Mohamed Salah, Senegal star and Roberto Firmino, although it may never have came together in the first place.

Salah joined Liverpool from Roma in a move that might well go down as one of the greatest in Premier League history, given the Egyptian's achievements since returning to England.

His arrival enabled Jurgen Klopp to pair him alongside Mane and Firmino, and the trio has netted 245 league goals in their stay together.

They won the Champions League and the Premier League during their stay and are a big reason why Liverpool is one of the top teams in the world.

Mane's transfer to Bayern Munich, revealed on Wednesday, ends their era, but that would not have done if one of the club's 3 preferred targets had gone to Anfield prior the club looked to Salah.

Liverpool examined approximately 15 wide players between missing out on Mohamed Salah {when he was at Basel} and getting him," Times journalist Paul Joyce reported in 2017.

Klopp has said that it was Dave Fallows, the chief of scouting and recruitment, Michael Edwards, the sporting director, and Barry Hunter, the senior scout, whose background checks included spying operations at training sessions and while games, who continually pushed his case.

[He signed] just after Liverpool had considered other options. Borussia Dortmund declined to let Christian Pulisic move, Julian Draxler was sought last January 2017, but rather chose to join PSG from Wolfsburg, while Julian Brand elected to stay at Bayer Leverkusen, thinking he just wouldn't play consistently at Anfield."

Pulisic had joined Dortmund just like Klopp was departing the Bundesliga team, and he had been extensively linked with a transfer to Anfield at the moment of Salah's departure.

The American striker remained in Germany, and just Eighteen months later he decided to join Chelsea on loan, continuing at Dortmund till the summer of 2019.

Draxler joined PSG in January 2017, and events haven't done well for the German since then, with him not being first choice for the majority of his time in Paris.

Brandt was mainly worried for first-team football at the age of 21, and the winger obviously got enough of minutes at Bayer Leverkusen.

He's subsequently transferred to Dortmund and continued to grow, however he's certainly nowhere near Salah's goal-scoring prowess.

Following 6 years with the team, Mane's transfer to Bayern was met with a tearful goodbye from both the player and his now-former boss, Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp told the 30-year-old was as a 'modern day icon' at Anfield, and it might not be a stretch to say he's also become a hero for the red half of Merseyside.

They'd have been a considerably different squad without him, and much more so if Salah hadn't accompanied him.
