The United superstar underwhelmed during his time with Portugal at Euro 2020 this season, even though he was returned to his best for such Red Devils' first Premier League game.

During the first half, Fernandes gave United the lead, but barely minutes into the 2nd half, Luke Ayling equalised for Marcelo Bielsa's side.

Mason Greenwood regained United's position in the 2nd half, and Fernandes added his 2nd and 3rd goals in the 54th and 60th minutes, accordingly.

Fred scored in the 68th minute as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team defeated Leeds 5-1 at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Following Fernandes' outstanding hat-trick, United supporters took to social media to proclaim that he was greater than Lampard throughout his prime Chelsea years.

During his 13-year playing career at Stamford Bridge, Lampard achieved 3 Premier League trophies, a Europa League, 4 FA Cups, a Champions League and 2 League Cups.

Along with Steven Gerrard & Paul Scholes, the 43-year-old former Chelsea manager is generally considered one of the greatest midfield players in Premier League history.

United ole Gunnar Solskjaer hailed Fernandes' efforts against Leeds, calling him a "risk-taker."

Just after the game, he said BT Sport: "He is a great Man United is risk-taker player. If you're a forward at Utd, you always have optimism, little more bit of swagger, and take risks.
