Manchester United To Make More Than £2.5 Million From The World Cup Break, With 15 Footballers Flying To Qatar

During the World Cup break, Man Utd will receive more than £2.5 million from FIFA.

Although the Premier League is on break, Manchester United is set to gain millions during the mid-season hiatus.

This happens because FIFA, in accordance with the organization's 2010 Club Benefits Programme, will compensate clubs for every day their player is gone promoting their nation.

The programme is intended to reimburse teams that release players. Given that Manchester United has 16 players scheduled to go to Qatar, the club will gain millions in just over a month.

FIFA is estimated to have paid about £157 million under the programme during the 2018 World Cup in Russia, although clubs are expected to get more this time around.

How the math works

This year, clubs are paid $9,012 each player per day they are out at the competition, an increase from £6,440 each player per day in Russia.

The 'per day' limit, of course, only occurs if the appropriate player continues with his national squad throughout the 2022 World Cup.

However, the World Cup has been shortened to 29 days this year, with each squad starting preparations today, 6 days before the game begins.

The event begins on November 20, and every team will engage for 13 days until the group phase concludes.

Man United will send 16 players to the World Cup, including Alex Telles, who is on loan at the club.

The squad includes Cristiano Ronaldo, Hannibal Mejbri, Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford, Diogo Dalot, Bruno Fernandes, Facundo Pellistri, Fred, Casemiro, Tyrell Malacia, Antony, Raphael Varane, Telles, Christian Eriksen, and Lisandro Martinez.

The club will make a guaranteed $2,739,648 from the World Cup if all Sixteen players participate for a stipulated 19 days.

This amount is sure to increase since the Red Devils include players from numerous nations that are expected to advance far in the competition, including England, Argentina, France and Brazil.

Former players who appear for the club may also receive money. According to FIFA rules, the remuneration shall be given to all clubs for whom the player has participated in the 2 years preceding the FIFA World Cup 2022.

In turn, Manchester United may be entitled to compensation for  Edinson Cavani and Daniel James.
